MY STAND ON THE POLICY OF RESERVATION

Reservation initially was introduced for the upliftment of the suppressed class people

which constitute a chunk of Indian population. Its motives were the up gradation of the

Orthodox Indian society, to improvise the economic standards of the downtrodden by

providing them seats in various institutions, basic amenities at a subsidized rate etc.But

Now, this policy has lost its meaning ,it is now more of a “divide and rule ” policy (as

used by British ).This policy has been the most prolific one regarding vote bank politics.

Our politicians (who are the least bothered about the nation as a whole) have used this

policy as their testimonies to befool a large part of Indian population which thrives in

rural areas ,and add them in their vote bank. They speak of increment in

reservation, amendments in the various clauses regarding this policy and are thus able to

impress upon the minds of major chunk of Indian population .

Reservation according to me is an exorbitantly pathetic idea in this era of globalization

and capitalization ,where individuals with merit ,hard work ,talent ,erudition are the most

coveted .

recently, reservation for obc’s was extravagantly proposed by our home minister mr arjun

singh. Well ,i analyse the purpose of this step in this way:

About 36% of Indian population are obc’s.our home minister doesn’t have a strong

political base ,due to which congress were planning to have this portfolio into the hands

of some other eminent leader.so ,mr singh were almost on the verge of removal.hence he

proposed reservation for this chunk .now congress is almost in a state of helplessness ,it

is unable to remove mr singh from his post as this step would lead congress losing its obc

vote bank.hence it was master political move by the current home minister.

First of all,Only the creamy layer(which are in minority) of the scheduled castes and

tribes have been able to derive benefits of this policy ,the poor and downtrodden haven’t

gained a bit from this policy.their social, moral, ethical, economical status continues to be

the same as it was before the introduction of this policy .only a miniscule percentage of

the real needy have been able to derive benefits from this policy.secondly a majority of

this privileged class have forgotten hard work as getting into the prestigious institutions

and securing government jobs is a mere cake walk for them which furthe leads to

inefficiency . Rather than ensuring reservations ,they should be provided proper

economic and social incentives like allowing them to issue books from the library for

free, provision of daily goods and basic amenities at a subsidized rate etc.hence

reservation can be regarded as a malicious policy which would hamper the growth of

human ethics in our country .thus leading our nation to a situation of turmoil.

Recently in the local daily, there was an article regarding dreaded consequences of

reservation which titled “god ,why am I born in a brahman family”.the article expressed

the discontentment among the upper caste people .inevitably this issue would foster

enemity between the privileged and the non privileged class, which would be a major

setback to the integrity of our nation which is most needed being surrounded by hostile

nations and religionalism prominently prevelant.

So to end with,

The best words that describe this policy are :

“Ludicrous”

“ostentatious”

and “malignant”
